Photo and description

Very beautiful old church of St. Margaret is in the shadow of Westminster Abbey, both literally and figuratively. It was built in the 12th century by Benedictine monks as a parish church for residents of the surrounding areas.

From 1486 to 1523. the church was rebuilt and became the parish church of Westminster Palace. It was also rebuilt later, in the 18th and 19th centuries. , but mostly retained the perpendicular Gothic style.

Particular attention is drawn to the East Window - a Flemish stained glass window made in 1509, made in honor of the betrothal of Catherine of Aragon to Henry VIII.

The church has a vertical sundial; the dial on the eastern facade shows the time to astronomical (solar) half day, the dial on the west facade is afternoon.

Together with Westminster Palace and Abbey, St. Margarita is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
