Kiev History Museum description and photos - Ukraine: Kiev. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Museum of the History of Kiev was created in November 1978, when a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR was issued. The basis for the formation of the museum was the exhibits donated by the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, as well as gifts from enterprises and organizations. At first, the museum was housed in a building known as the "House of Peter I", which was located on Podol (Konstantinovskaya Street), but a little later the museum moved to the Klovsky Palace. The Museum of History of Kiev received its first visitors on May 26, 1982 when the 1500th anniversary of Kiev was celebrated. At that time, the funds of the museum totaled about 36,000 original exhibits. Although only 5-6% of them were shown to the public. To date, the museum has over 250,000 exhibits. The funds of the Museum of the History of Kiev include archaeological materials, found on the territory of the city, ethnographic and numismatic collections, postcards, icons, printed publications, household items of Kiev residents of different times. Since in May 2004 the premises of the Klovsky Palace were transferred to the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the exhibits of the Museum of the History of Kiev were transferred to the Ukrainian House. Today, part of the collection of the Museum of the History of Kiev is exhibited on the 4th and 5th floors of the Ukrainian House. Since this is too little to demonstrate as fully as possible the exhibits at the disposal of the Museum, part of its funds are also located in the premises of the M. Bulgakov Museum and in the very House of Peter I, from where the museum itself once began. In August 2011, the mayor's office of Kiev disseminated information that a scandalous building of a shopping and office center was allocated for the Museum of the History of Kiev, under construction on the street B. Khmelnitsky. Since May 2012, the museum has officially moved to this building and now work is underway to form new expositions.
