Photo and description

The National Library of the Republic of Belarus was opened on June 16, 2006. Scientifically speaking, the figure in the form of which this futuristic building was built is called rhombocubooctahedron, but its other name was fixed in Minsk - diamond.

The building of the National Library was included in the list of the most unusual buildings in the world, as well as the world's largest libraries. The height of the building is 73.670 m, the total area is 113 669, the storage capacity is 14 million copies, the number of fully automated working and reading spaces is 1500.

Construction of the library began in 2002. It was built in just four years. This is a record time for such a grandiose project. The library was built by the whole country. In Minsk it is called the Treasury of the Nation or the Diamond of Knowledge and is considered a national treasure.

All the glasses of the giant diamond are covered with polychrome LEDs, due to which, at night, they create three-dimensional pictures controlled from a computer system. The building is designed and lit in such a way that it can be seen from space.

The front entrance to the library looks like a huge open book, symbolizing the greatness of knowledge. At the entrance there is a bronze statue of the Belarusian pioneer printer Francis Skaryna. Inside, the impression of a zero-gravity flight is created, which is achieved through transparent walls and floors. The library offers an impressive view of Minsk. The walls are decorated with paintings by contemporary Belarusian artists.

The library is equipped with the latest equipment.
