Photo and description

The Khynys fortress is located south of Erzurum, three hours away. A smooth and straight road leads to it, starting from a bridge in the shape of a golden ring. The walls around Khynys form a quadrangle. This is a fairly fortified fortress, which is located in a high place - on a steep cliff. In the very middle of it there is a huge palace, and around there are cliffs. The fortress is surrounded on all sides by sheer cliffs.

A cold and very transparent river flows in the eastern part of the city. At the base of the wall, at the bottom of the fortress, the master provided an iron grate. This river passes through it and outside the fortress distributes water to the gardens, irrigating them. However, no one and nothing else can pass through the iron grate except water. The gates of the fortress are located not far from this source with running water.

The fortress was founded by the paternal uncle of the ruler of Azerbaijan Uzun-Hasan, Shah Shapur. Subsequently, Khynys was captured by the Kurds, and later they gave the keys to the fortress to Suleiman Shah. At the moment, the fortress is the residence of the Sanjakbey in the Erzurum Eyalet. Hass, granted to the bey by the padishah, brought in an income of about 484,000 acche.

There are one thousand two hundred houses in the Khynys fortress, in which they still live. There is a cathedral mosque and seven mihrabs. There is also a bathhouse and a caravanserai and a small market. All houses are covered with clay. There are no houses covered with tiles. Domestic animals, especially goats and sheep, in the population without counting.
