Above Foros, two kilometers from the Baydar Gate, on a steep cliff 400 m above sea level rises the Church of the Ascension of Christ, built in 1892. The cathedral was built in the Byzantine style with a special masonry technique wide flat bricks and a system of internal supports, but with the use of numerous domes similar to Russian wooden churches, due to which the Foros church resembles Moscow churches of the late 18th century.

In total, the church has gone through three restorations, experts call all three attempts to restore the temple unsuccessful. The fourth restoration took place in 2004. The picturesque decoration inside the temple was recreated, the paintings preserved outside were restored, a mosaic was created on the facade.
