Those traveling to the picturesque places of northern Spain should definitely visit one of the best winter resorts located in the northwestern part of the Aragonese Pyrenees - the city of Jaca. The city has an area of 412.22 sq. Km. and belongs to the province of Huesca.

This is a beautiful ancient city that has experienced many historical events over the long period of its existence. The date of the city's founding is not known for certain, but it is generally believed that it was formed in the first millennium BC. During the excavations carried out in this area, fragments of Iberian ceramics, metal swords, coins dating back to the 2nd century BC, as well as many other artifacts, revealing the long history of the city, were found.

In ancient times, Jaca was an important trade center, due to its location at the crossroads of trade routes. In 1077, during the reign of Sancho Ramirez, Jaca was declared the first capital of the Kingdom of Aragon. At the same time, a new royal palace was erected in the city.

Since the Middle Ages, when the city of Jaca experienced its true heyday, the majestic Cathedral of St.Peter, built in the 11th century in the Romanesque style and is the most ancient cathedral in the country, a powerful pentagonal citadel built in the end of the 16th century, the Puente San Miguel bridge of the 15th century, the Diocesan Museum of the city of Jaca, which contains magnificent frescoes of the Romanesque and Gothic periods.
