The largest and oldest mosque in Izmir, the Hisar Mosque, was built in the 16th century and has been repeatedly restored in the 19th century. Its interior is magnificent, in particular, the pulpit and the altar. The dome is supported by 8 columns located along the perimeter of the prayer hall. Nine small domes covering part of the annexes to the main prayer hall give the building an original look.
