Photo and description

Villa "Vera" is located in the historical part of the city of Sochi and is a monument of regional importance.

In October 1872, Nikolai Nikolayevich Mamontov, a Moscow merchant of the first guild, erected a beautiful wooden dacha for his daughter Vera. Vera was very sick, so she was limited in movement. Near the mansion, the merchant planted a garden with various fruit and fruit trees, planted flowers and shrubs. The whole villa was simply surrounded by greenery.

Thanks to Matsesta sources and fresh air, the state of N.N. Mamontov has improved a lot. Soon she married the local city mayor N.A. Kostarev, after which the dacha, along with the park, passed into their possession. Vera Nikolaevna actively participated in the life of the city and was the main initiator of the foundation of the city library in honor of the 100th anniversary of A.S. Pushkin. Since there was no room for a library in the city, the Kostarevs decided to cede their mansion for this. In 1910, a new two-story stone house was built on the site of an old dilapidated building and the park was expanded.

The mansion has retained its previous name - Villa "Vera". Like most merchant buildings, the architecture of the building is eclectic. It was not possible to establish the authors of this architectural project, although it is known that this project was ordered in St. Petersburg.

In the post-revolutionary period, the Kostarev estate was nationalized, from January to July 1918 the revolutionary executive committee was located here Workers' Council, soldiers and peasants' deputies of the Sochi District. From 1943 to 1946, evacuation hospitals and a sanatorium named after Tsyurupa were located here. In the 1960s, after the sanatorium was transferred to another premises, the territory on which the villa was located was re-planned and reconstructed, and land redistribution began. Until 1992, the building housed the Sochi Palace of Schoolchildren and Pioneers, and from 1992 to the present day - the Sochi City Center for extracurricular activities.

Villa "Vera" is a monument of culture, history and urban planning, protected state.
