It was a kind of experiment: the classical production took place in the decoration of the home library of the Polovtsev mansion. This project was continued by performances based on Pushkin's Little Tragedies. Together they formed a single cycle. In 1985, the premiere of "Scenes from Faust" was announced by the theater about its aesthetic program for a new direction in the art of drama - "interior theater".

Following the cycle "Little Tragedies" the following performances were held: "Autumn Boredom" staged based on the play by N.A.Nekrasov, which took place in the interior of the museum-apartment of the Russian poet, "Hamlet", which is a joint production with the Parisian theater "La Fabrix", which took place in "Jubilee", the play "Radix", an interior performance based on the play "Requiem" by L. In 2004, an acting course was recruited on the basis of the interior theater at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theater Arts. It was he who became the basis of the theater troupe and the creative core in the implementation of many theatrical ideas.

The Interior Theater is the organizer of such theater festivals as "Doctor Dapertutto's Shop" held in November, which promotes the traditions of experimental directing of the early 20th century ... and "TERRA INCOGNITA", held in April and dedicated to the "white spots" of culture.
