The title in English is Monestir de Sant Pau del Camp. Photo and descriptionThe Monastery of Sant Pau del Cam is an amazing, ancient place that you can get to by walking along Barcelona's Nou de al Rambla. This Romanesque building is the only surviving Romanesque building in Barcelona. This monastery is indeed a very ancient place, one of the oldest buildings in Barcelona, the exact date of its creation is unknown, but some historians call 911. In those days, the monastery was located far outside the city and was located in the fields, hence its name - Sant Pau del Cam, St. Paul's Church in the fields. Sao Pau del Cam Monastery has a difficult history. It was once the home of Benedictine monks. In 977 it was completely destroyed and abandoned by a community of monks. Its restoration began in 1096, but in 1114 it was again almost destroyed, after which it was rebuilt again. In the 14th century, a new city wall was built and the monastery became part of the city. In 1842, the territory of the monastery was a school, and from 1855 to 1890, military barracks were located here. The buildings on the territory of the monastery are extraordinarily beautiful - the church, the basilica, each building. The patio is especially attractive. The facade of the church looks majestic and solemn. The tympanum contains the image of Christ on the throne, surrounded by the humble apostles Peter and Paul. The hall has the main and transverse aisles of the same length, from here you can get into the cross passage leading to the former Benedictine monastery. The building is surrounded by a lovely garden.
