Photo and description

The Archbishop's residence in Trondheim is the oldest in Scandinavia, well-preserved, secular building, built in the second half of the 12th century. Until the reformation of 1537, the building served as the residence of the archbishop. Currently, it houses a historical museum complex, which displays archaeological finds such as the mantle of the archbishop, original sculptures from the Nidaros Cathedral and old coins.

In the western wing of the palace there is a military museum that tells about the history of the Norwegian armed forces up to until 1945, the Museum of the Resistance, as well as the exhibition of royal regalia. Official events of the authorities are currently being held in the north wing.

Annually, as part of the St. Olaf Summer Festival, the palace square in front of the residence turns into a stage for theatrical performances and concerts.

From June 20 to August 20, guided tours in Norwegian and English are organized around the Residence.
