Photo and description

Cathedral of St. Olaf, sometimes called the `` Cathedral of Nidaros '', was built for more than one century - from 1140 to the beginning of the 14th century. Despite repeated fires and rebuildings, this is one of the most beautiful medieval cathedrals in Europe. In the cathedral are buried Norwegian kings, including St. Olaf, to worship whose relics pilgrims from all over Europe rushed.

The facade of the cathedral is decorated with magnificent Gothic reliefs and statues of kings and saints. The interior is a labyrinth of gigantic columns with graceful arches that separate the altar from the nave. The true decoration of the cathedral is the altar of the XIV century and the baptismal font by G. Vigelan (early XX century). The cathedral's museum houses the coronation decisions of Norwegian monarchs.
