Church of Alexy, the Man of God description and photo - Russia - Moscow: Moscow. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Temple of Alexy the Man of God, located in Krasnoe Selo, was built in 1853 on the territory of the Alekseevsky Monastery. The monastery was transferred to this area of Moscow in 1837. However, the history of the temple began much earlier than its construction in its current form. In the Alekseevsky Monastery, which was located in Ostozhie before the transfer (now it is the territory of the Conception Monastery), in 1634 the Church of Alexy the Man of God was built with the participation of architects Antipa Konstantinov and Trifon Sharutinov. This temple was dismantled in 1838. The temple was not the first to appear on the territory of the Novo-Alekseevsky monastery: the parish church of the Exaltation of the Holy Life-giving Cross of the Lord was built before it. Mikhail Bykovsky became the architect of the new church in 1853, he also proposed to surround the monastery with a wall with towers. In Soviet times, the monastery was closed, and of its four churches, only two survived, including Alekseevsky. The former buildings of the monastery housed an archive, a production facility, the Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography. The building of the Alekseevsky temple housed the house of pioneers, and next to it, on the site of the cemetery, a park was laid out. Later, in the 80s, a highway ran through the territory of the former cemetery, which became part of the third transport ring. One of the temples, the Archangel Michael, was demolished, and a residential building grew in its place. In the 90s, the temple of Alexy the Man of God was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. At the same time, restoration work began in it, and at the beginning of this century, divine services were resumed. Currently, the church houses the Patriarch's courtyard.
