Lake Idro is located in the province of Brescia in the Italian region of Lombardy and is called Eridio in the local dialect. It is of glacial origin and lies at an altitude of 368 meters above sea level - this is the highest pre-Alpine lake in Italy. This freshwater lake is formed by the Chiese River, which flows out of it.

Idro is a fairly large lake, its surface area is 11.4 km2, and the maximum depth is 122 meters! At one time, it caused serious concern for scientists, since its waters were intensively used for irrigation, and due to the lack of runoff, they were swamped. In the 1920s, a dam was built here, making Idro the first natural lake in Italy with a regulated flow. Until 1987, this dam was operated by a specially created company, However, for more than 20 years now, disputes between local communities, administrative authorities and the L'ENEL corporation, which uses the waters of Idro for the operation of the hydroelectric power station, have not abated. Currently, a number of measures are being implemented to introduce limits on lowering the level of the lake - all this is done to improve the health of Idro and purify the waters.

The convenient location of Lake Idro in the picturesque foothills of the Italian Alps makes it an excellent place for the development of active recreation - rafting, mountain biking, alpine skiing, water sports. There are several hiking trails in the vicinity of the lake. Promotes the development of tourism and the presence of an excellent road network connecting Idro with the major international airports in Brescia, Verona, Venice, Milan.
