Photo and descriptionTatar State Theater of Drama and Comedy named after Karim Tinchurin is located in the center of Kazan, on Gorky Street. The theater was founded in 1933 on the initiative of K. Tinchurin. The building in which the theater is located was built in 1912 by the project of the architect F.R. Amlong. The building housed government offices and public organizations. The building was rectangular in plan, two-story, in the neoclassical style of the early twentieth century. The facade of the building is decorated in the classical style of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In 1918, the building was called the Red Army Palace. In 1914, the city troupe played dramatic performances there. In 1919 there were performances by the opera company. Since 1928, the building housed the Tatar Academic Theater. At first it was a collective-farm and state-farm theater, then it became the Republican Traveling Theater. In 1988 the theater was named after Karim Tinchurin. Since 1989 - the K. Tinchurin Tatar State Drama and Comedy Theater. Karim Tinchurin is an outstanding figure in the Tatar theater, playwright, director and actor. He devoted most of his life to theatrical work. In the first years of the theater's existence, its leaders and directors were: playwright Riza Ishmuratov, Gali Ilyasov, and Asgat Mazitov. Before the war, the theater was the only educational institution in the Tatar villages. During the Great Patriotic War, the theater actors performed at recruiting offices and in hospitals. At the end of the war, the theater directors were Gabdulla Yusupov and Suleiman Valeev-Sulve. In 1956, Kashifa Tumasheva was appointed the chief director of the theater. After the war, the theater's repertoire includes performances by foreign authors, Russian and Tatar classics. In 1963, the Honored Art Worker of the TASSR, laureate of the State Prize of the TASSR named after I. G. Tukaya - Ravil Tumashev. In 1993, the Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan R.M. was appointed to the post of the chief director of the theater. Zagidullin.
