Photo and description

The Arctic Cathedral is a 720-seat Lutheran church of the Tromsdalen parish, built and consecrated in 1965. It is a unique cultural heritage of Norway, in its shape resembles an iceberg floating in the polar night under the overflow of the Northern Lights.

Cathedral stained glass windows, the main theme of which is "The Coming of Christ", the largest in Europe. In architecture, the symbolic number “3” is used everywhere - as in the altarpiece by the artist Victor Sparre - three rays of light emanating from the hand of God and directed at Christ and the two apostles. An oak interior, large chandeliers, a pulpit are easily combined with a heavyweight simplicity of construction.

In 2005, a 3-register organ in the French romantic style was built, consisting of 2940 pipes. It replaced the old one and is used for divine services and organ concerts.

While visiting the cathedral, you can buy souvenirs, postage stamps, postcards and various publications dedicated to this arctic temple. When the church service is in progress, the entrance for tourists is closed.
