Limassol is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Cyprus: tourists call this place a holiday city and love it for its noisy and cheerful carnivals and shows. In addition, the city has many attractions, historical, cultural and architectural monuments. For example, one of the largest mosques in Limassol, Kebir Jami (sometimes also called Jami Kebir) is considered an excellent example of traditional Islamic architecture. It is located directly opposite the Limassol City Fortress, just a hundred meters north-west of it, and next to the mosque are the famous Turkish baths-hamam.

The exact date of the creation of Kebir Jami is unknown, but presumably it was erected at the end of the 16th century. This ancient mosque, built of white stone as inside, and from the outside strikes with its graceful simplicity. Its small barred windows let in a sufficient amount of light, but at the same time, a rather mysterious atmosphere remains inside, and thick walls allow keeping the room pleasantly cool even on the hottest days.

At the moment, the Kebir Jama mosque is active although the Muslim community that visits it is very small and the mosque is often closed. In addition, it is officially closed for tourists, but if you want to, you can still get there - for a small donation for the maintenance of the temple, it is opened for the most curious and persistent visitors. But at the same time, do not forget that when entering, you must take off your shoes, and women must also cover their heads.
