Photo and description
The Palace of Farmers is located in the historical place of the city, near the northern wall of the Kazan Kremlin on Fedoseevskaya Street. In front of it is the Palace Square and the embankment of the Kazanka River.
The building was built on the site of the demolished Fedoseevskaya street. The palace was designed by the Antika-plus company. The author of the project is Leonid Gornik. It houses the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Main Directorate of Veterinary Medicine and other subordinate organizations. The construction of the building went on from 2008 to 2010.
The exterior of the building is monumental and eclectic. The building has two symmetrical portals, right and left. The central part of the building with a portal topped with a dome. In the central arch there is a tree twenty meters high. It symbolizes fertility and prosperity. With its appearance and borrowed architecture, the building resembles the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. In contrast to the exterior, the interior of the building is executed with restraint, from inexpensive materials. 2.2 billion rubles were spent on the construction of the Palace.
After the completion of the building in 2010, the Volga Federal District Administration protested. It stated that the presence of such a building near the World Heritage Site, which is the Kazan Kremlin, violates legislation on the protection of cultural heritage and does not correspond to the cultural and historical environment.
The eclectic luxurious and expensive building raises various assessments from enthusiastic to critics. Critics consider the Palace of Farmers to be inappropriate in style next to the Kazan Kremlin.
