Photo and description

The State Memorial and Literary Museum of V.V. Mayakovsky is dedicated to the work of a prominent representative of the avant-garde, Russian and Soviet poet - Vladimir Mayakovsky. The museum was reconstructed in 1987 - 1989. More than twenty years after the reconstruction, the museum is considered the most original in Moscow.

The museum is located in a house in Lubyansky proezd. In 1919-1930, Vladimir Mayakovsky lived here. He committed suicide in this house.

V.V. Mayakovsky was opened in 1974. Most of the exposition of the new museum was the collection of the Mayakovsky Library-Museum, founded in 1938. The library-museum was opened in the former apartment of Lily and Osip Brik and Vladimir Mayakovsky in Gendrikov Lane. The result of the museum's research activities at that time was the preparation for publication of a 13-volume edition of Mayakovsky's works and a volume "Literary Heritage".

In the late sixties, it was decided to move the museum to Lubyanskiy proezd. The museum got its current name in 1967, when it became a literary memorial, and in 1968 it was transferred to Lubyansky passage to a house that once belonged to the gold miner I. Stakheev. At this time, the museum held exhibitions and various public events. In 1971, the exposition "Mayakovsky - the poet of October" was opened.

In 1987, the reconstruction of the museum began, which completely changed it. After the reconstruction, the museum turned into a huge (all four floors) installation. The exhibits float in zero gravity. The force of gravity is replaced by lines that capture the meaning, from which space is built in the same way as a verse. Everything "jumps" the ladder. The staircase is the main form and principle of the entire museum. In the organization of space there is only one place where everything is rigid, calm, static and symmetrical - this is Mayakovsky's room. The only really historically connected with Mayakovsky museum premises. The author of this "space turned inside out" was Andrey Bokov, who has since become the president of the Union of Architects of the Russian Federation.
