The title in English is Curium Archaeological Museum. Photo and descriptionThe Archaeological Museum of Kourion, located in the village of Epistoki about 12 kilometers from Limassol, has a rich collection of treasures, most of which date back to antiquity. Despite the fact that the museum is quite small, it is definitely worth a visit - due to the fact that this territory has a rich and eventful history, the museum has become the owner of truly valuable exhibits. Most of the things that are stored there were found on the excavations of the ancient city of Kourion, founded in the 12th century BC. Mycenaeans. This settlement existed until the Middle Ages. Its ruins were discovered at the beginning of the 20th century. The museum was opened in 1953 in the house of one of the members of a scientific expedition, located not far from the excavation site. The first floor of the building is completely occupied by two exhibition halls. They store ceramics, on which one can distinguish exquisite painting, copper and earthenware, coins, figurines and busts. Thus, in the first room, statues of Asclepius and Hermes, preserved fragments of mosaics and marble cladding, coins, decorative elements, and ceramics are exhibited. And in the second - household items, jewelry, gold and ivory products, sculptures found in the sanctuary of Apollo, photographs of the excavation site and much more. In addition, the largest exhibits are located right in the courtyard of the building - dimensional statues and columns, as well as their fragments. The museum also has a special room for restoration work.
