Photo and descriptionIn 1780, in the capital of Russia, a book was published entitled "Topographic and Historical News of the Antiquity of Russia", which became the first work of local lore, and its author was A.A. Zasetsky. This is the name given to the exposition of the historical department of the Vologda Museum-Reserve. Household utensils, household items, tools and weapons, photographs and documents - all these exhibits tell about the peculiarities of the development of this region at any historical stage. Each of the halls has its own peculiarity - several exhibits that carry the main semantic load. Exhibits of this kind are often attractive and inevitably attract the attention of numerous visitors. Such exhibits are: a cut from a burial and reconstruction work of an earthen vessel dating back to the Neolithic era, as well as jewelry of the 10-11 centuries, including Finno-Ugric pendants, serving as amulets. The largest number of rarities is in the exhibition hall, which tells about the Middle Ages period, which is especially rich in various kinds of dramatic events : oprichnina, civil strife, Polish-Lithuanian intervention - reminiscent of various types of weapons, church utensils and unique icons. The portrait of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, whose name symbolizes the heyday of Vologda, attracts particular attention of visitors. The portrait was made by the Vologda painter A. Berezin at the beginning of the 19th century and represents the great tsar not as an autocrat, so famous for his rigidity, but as a pacified, intelligent and noble legislator. There is a collection of the largest Russian hoard of the 17th century, which has more than 46 silver kopecks, Russian and foreign goods sold at various Vologda fairs, as well as a rare thing - an exit carriage of the 17th century, which was in the hands of the famous Stroganovs. One of the themes of the historical hall was the theme "Our land in the 18th century", dedicated to the reign of Peter the Great and his wife Ekaterina Alekseevna. Here are portraits, documents, books, as well as a silver mug, a gift from Peter the Great to the carpenter Chebykin. A bronze casket on a carved pedestal is also presented. When visiting the 19th century history department, one cannot fail to notice the card table, the costumes of the mayor of the Vologda Territory, the work of local craftsmen. In the 70s of the 20th century, the created exposition was rebuilt, and most of the items were sent for restoration. This kind of exhibits are presented in considerable numbers at the exhibition entitled “Age 20. Time. Events. People". The exhibition is dedicated to the landmark events of the last century, namely the October Revolution, world wars, space exploration and atomic energy. At first glance, absolutely discreet objects carry in themselves, in addition to information, the feelings and experiences of all participants in the events: letters from soldiers sent from the fronts of the First and Second World Wars, memoirs and diaries. All documents and numerous photographs represent human destinies, which contain their entire short biography. There is a letter from a pioneer Suvorov soldier - a cadet of a military school, as well as a customs declaration on crossing the border of Afghanistan and then, 20 days later, a funeral sent. At a stationary exhibition, dedicated to "Vologzhans-front-line soldiers and home front workers", the most important is the theme of the courage of soldiers and numerous feats of home front workers during the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition presents documents and photographs, awards and personal belongings of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, as well as products of industrial enterprises in Vologda - all these exhibits tell about the contribution of Vologda residents to the great military victory. The very last exhibition hall is dedicated to the last period of the war; it is called "Salute, Victory!" The hall was opened for the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory. In 2007, the exposition "Vologda Oblast - 70 years" was opened, where the banner of the Vologda Oblast Executive Committee and the Order of Lenin are displayed.
