Wat Ratchapradit description and photos - Thailand: Bangkok. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Wat Ratchapradit. Photo and descriptionThe dazzlingly beautiful Ratchapradit temple was originally the temple of King Rama IV or Mongkut between 1851 and 1868. At that time, he occupied an area of only 2 heavens on earth. The main purpose of Vata Ratchapradit was the development of the Thammayut sect, founded by the king as an offshoot of Buddhism while preserving ancient dogmas. Only two temples of the capital were given over to the work of the sect: Wat Ratchapradit and Wat Ratchaburana. After the expansion of the temple and the acquisition of neighboring plantations, Rama IV gave it a new name Ratchapradit Sathitmahasimar. Inside the central building (viharna) there are magnificent frescoes showing the ordinary viewer special royal ceremonies and telling epic stories about solar eclipses and the movement of the sun across the sky. At the base of the central Buddha statue in the temple are the remains of King Mongkut, his great founder, who is still remembered and revered by all Thai people. The temple has preserved numerous gifts to King Rama IV from his high-ranking friends around the world, including French ceiling fans and floor lamps, English-style lamps, and a unique clock from Germany. In the architecture of Wat Ratchapradit, both Thai and Khmer influences are clearly visible. On its territory you will see both gilded Thai chedi (stupas), resembling a drop in shape, and Khmer phrangs (stupas), from a distance, similar to corn cobs. The layout of the temple is so good that despite the passing time, it does not sink, and no matter how hot it is outside, inside the air remains cool without the use of modern fans and air conditioners. The design of the temple is very elegant, it is not rich in small complex symbols and details, but is decorated with beautiful mosaics with mirrors in green and blue tones and carvings.
