Photo and description

An abandoned village is located 8 km from Fethiye. There was a Greek settlement here since the 18th century. But in 1923, the authorities evicted all the Greeks and brought in Muslims who had arrived from Macedonia. However, the Muslims soon left the village and moved closer to the sea. Since then, no one has lived here.

The village has 3,500 houses and three churches, including the Panay Pyrgiotis Basilica (late 19th century) with preserved mosaics and marble decorations. The Greeks, leaving the village, exhumed the remains of their loved ones, but took only their skulls with them. The remaining bones of the deceased residents were laid in one of the buildings of the churchyard, where they can be seen today.
