The Old Golutvin Monastery was founded in 1384 by Sergius of Radonezh and Dmitry Donskoy in honor of the victory over the Tatars. The first abbot was the Monk Gregory Golutvinsky. At the beginning of the twentieth century, for some time the rector was the Optina elder Barsanuphius until his death.

The monastery is located a few hundred meters from the confluence of the Moskva River and the Oka, on the arrow.
