Vladychny monastery description and photos - Russia - Moscow region: Serpukhov. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Vladychny Vvedensky Convent was founded in 1360 by the Moscow Metropolitan Saint Alexis in honor of the Lady of the Mother of God as a male monastery. The monastery was completely rebuilt at the end of the 16th century at the expense of Tsar Boris Godunov, but in the 18th century it fell into disrepair. In 1806 the monastery was transformed into a female monastery, and in the 1920s it was abolished. The Vvedensky Cathedral of the monastery combines in its architecture the austere simplicity of the 16th century with the decorativeness of the next century. One of the most interesting structures of the monastery is the refectory complex, which includes the refectory chamber, the tent-roofed church of St. George and the bell tower. The Holy Gates with the Gate Church of Theodotius of Ankir, built in 1599, were subsequently rebuilt and consecrated in honor of the Image of the Savior Not Made by Hands. Also preserved is a two-storey residential building built in the 16th-17th centuries and a sister building of the 19th century. The monastery is surrounded by fortress walls with three-tiered corner towers, which stand out for their bright decorative decoration.
