This resort sits on the Kamp River, ideal for fishing and kayaking. The resort has several luxury spas, including one exclusively for women. The land around Gars am Kamp dates back to the Stone Age. Since the 11th century, the Babenberg family ruled here. Monarch Leopold II moved his residence to Gars am Kamp from Melk. Buchberg Castle, which was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century, was founded by Kuhring at the end of the 12th century. The city consists of several buildings, forming two courtyards. In the 19th century, the castle was rebuilt according to the project of the architect Ludwig Wachtler and after a while they left it, having boarded up the doors and windows.
