Photo and description

Only small fragments of the Schlossberg fortress, which once stood over the city, have survived. The fortress has been the seat of emperors since the 15th century. Three times the Turks tried to take the fortress, but all attempts were unsuccessful. Three times the city was captured by Napoleonic troops and in 1809 they blew up the fortress. In 1839, a city park was laid out here.

Next to the castle is the Clock Tower, which rises just above the city roofs. The watch is very curious: the large hand shows the hours, and the small, set later, the minutes. The upper part of the tower is surrounded by a covered wooden gallery.

The Schlossberg mountain offers a beautiful view of the city. You can climb here on foot or take the funicular.
