Frohnleiten is an Austrian city located in the federal state of Styria, 25 km north of Graz, which is the capital of the region.

Frohnleiten began to develop actively in 1280 under Count Pfannberg. Not far from Frohnleiten, an important trade route to Graz passed; a bridge was built across the Mur River, on which a duty was collected for the transported goods. Due to the reluctance to pay tribute, a route was developed bypassing the bridge, which passed between Leoben and Frohnleiten. In 1763, a fire destroyed most of the city's historic buildings.

During the Second World War, resistance fighters were brought to Frohnleiten, from where all participants were sent to different camps.

Currently, a woodworking plant has been established in the city. industry, there is a Mayer-Melnhof cardboard factory, an aerospace and mechanical engineering office.

There are 2 primary schools, a secondary and a music school, and a medical college in the city. A Red Cross ambulance department has been opened, where patients from neighboring municipalities (11 cadastral municipalities in total) are transported.

The main attractions of Frohnleiten include the beautiful main square of the city with impressive historical buildings. The Servite Monastery and the Parish Church with a Rococo altar and frescoes by Joseph Adam von Melk are interesting to see.
