Photo and description

Palazzo and Garden of Giusti is a luxurious palace and park complex located on the slopes of a hill on the eastern outskirts of Verona, a few dozen meters from Piazza Isolo and a 10-minute walk from the Amphitheater. Built at the end of the 16th century, the palace has the classic U-shape that was traditional for country estates of that era. It bears the name of the Tuscan Giusti family, who moved to Verona in the 15th century. And at the end of the 16th century, the scion of the family, Prince Agostino Giusti, became the founder of the villa and garden, which received pan-European fame. Unfortunately, the architect of this creation remained unknown.

An extensive park, laid out around the Palazzo in 1580, consists of many terraces and belvederes. Despite, that in its history it was altered many times (the last redevelopment was carried out in 1930), today the Garden of Giusti is considered one of the most beautiful examples of landscape architecture in Italy. On its territory you can see a fountain with figures of dolphins and a fountain made of red marble, antique statues and a unique stone masceron, standing on top of a hill and once spewing fire from its depths. The oldest part of the park, dating from the 14th century and having regular geometric shapes, is located next to the fountains and surrounded by rows of cypress trees. In the western part of the park there are 4 square flower beds surrounded by tree avenues. It is here that there is a fountain with dolphins, the pagan statue of Minerva and the figure of Apollo rise. The eastern part of the park is divided into only two zones. In the first, divided into 4 triangular flower beds, there is a small fountain made of red Veronese marble, and in the second there is a labyrinth-hedge, designed in 1786 and which is today one of the few preserved in the province of Veneto. The Garden of Giusti has seen in its lifetime many eminent visitors wandering in admiration along its alleys - Goethe, Cosimo Medici III, Mozart, Emperor Alexander I and others. And today the inhabitants of Verona and numerous tourists love to walk here, who from the very top of the garden can admire a stunning view of the city and its surroundings.
