The I.S.Turgenev Museum was opened on Ostozhenka Street in Moscow on October 8, 2009. The museum was opened in a house that was rented by the writer's mother, Varvara Petrovna Turgeneva, from 1840 to 1850. In this house, the writer stayed with his mother, visiting Moscow. Sometimes he lived for a long time. Many outstanding people of the forties of the 19th century visited it.

A house with white columns was once on the outskirts of Moscow. It is a wooden mansion with a portico supported by six Ionic columns from the early 19th century. The mansion was built in the Moscow Empire style, which is popular in the post-fire buildings of Moscow.
