Frederiksborg Palace is one of the majestic castles located in the town of Hilerod. The history of the construction of the castle began in 1560 at the direction of King Frederick II, the final construction work was completed in 1625 under King Christian IV.

The entire castle complex was built in the Renaissance style (copper roofs with spiers, wide pediments, decorative artwork is made of sandstone) on three islands. These small three islands are connected by bridges and are united by a beautiful Baroque garden.

The palace building consists of three parts: the royal wing, the chapel wing and the princess wing. On the middle island, there are structures intended for the office and residence of the lord. There is a beautiful fountain in the center of the courtyard, decorated with silver sculptures. The fountain was designed by the famous Dutch sculptor Adrian de Vries.

Frederiksborg Palace has belonged to the royal family for over two hundred years. Now the castle houses the Museum of National History. It was opened to visitors after the restoration of the building in 1882. Visitors are presented with a collection of furniture, porcelain, orders and medals, silverware, paintings, a wonderful gallery of portraits of the 16th-19th centuries. (depicts Danish monarchs, Vitus Bering, Andersen, Catherine II, Maria Stuart). An exhibition of paintings by contemporary artists is displayed in the royal wing on the third floor. A chapel, a large knight's hall and a small knight's hall are also open to visitors.
