Photo and description

The Hilerod City Museum is located on the territory of the palace park of Frederiksborg Castle, located in the center of this city. It is worth noting that the palace itself houses another large Danish museum - the Museum of National History. The City Museum occupies only a small three-storey building that previously served as a hunting lodge at the royal residence.

The museum tells about the history of the town of Hilerod, which was founded simultaneously with the construction of Frederiksborg Castle itself - in the middle of the 16th century. The city did not have important economic significance, it only provided labor and food for the royal residence of Frederiksborg. However, this is where the uniqueness of Hilerod is expressed. A relatively small number of such cities survived on the territory of Denmark, formed as a kind of "appendage" to a large castle. The museum tells how from this little-known medieval village a large city grew, supporting a huge palace.

Thus, the oldest exhibits in the museum date back to 1560, but not earlier than the year when construction of Frederiksborg Palace began. Of course, he also received a lot of attention in the museum collection. However, there are other exhibits here as well. For example, it is worth noting the so-called “Street of the Future”, which features amazingly reconstructed shopping arcades, shops, offices, shops and workshops that were widespread in Hilerod in the 20th century, starting with the First World War. Visitors are invited to plunge into the very recent past of the city.

An old printing house is located in the underground floor of the museum, which is still working today. Every Wednesday, real book printing takes place here - both with the use of manual labor and using a machine. In May 2008, a video exposition appeared in the museum, dedicated to the activities of one of the largest urban factories Nordsten, working in the field of heavy industry. It was founded back in 1877 and several times took part in world exhibitions of technical and technological achievements.
