Photo and descriptionThe Sparrow Monument in Baranovichi was erected in 2003 on Heinola Boulevard, the twin city of Baranovichi. The author of the sculpture of the Sparrow statue was the Belarusian sculptor Stanislav Tselyuk. On the pedestal where the bronze sparrow sits, it is written in Belarusian: “2003 is the year of the brownie sparrow. I flew to you forever. It is not the south that beckons, but the Motherland. ” Local residents claim that the city authorities managed to decorate a metal one and a half meter pipe in such an original way, which for some reason sticks out in the middle of the main square of Baranovichi. The bronze sparrow really sits on the pipe. This original solution was so fond of the townspeople that they began to consider the monument to the Sparrow as their city talisman. Schoolchildren come here before exams and some superstitious people. It is believed that stroking a bronze body will bring good luck. High school students come here after their holiday of the last call to stroke a sparrow for good luck. They say that all wishes come true. On March 31, 2003, a postage stamp was issued with the image of this unusual monument in Baranovichi under the auspices of the international organization for the protection of birds and the Belarusian organization "Ahova bird of Belarus". Near the monument, actions of nature conservationists are held in support of urban birds and, in particular, house sparrows, which have lived next to humans for many centuries and play an important role in protecting green spaces from insect pests.
