Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov description and photos - Russia - Baltic States: Svetlogorsk. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Seraphim of Sarov Church is a real pearl of Svetogorsk. The former church, and today the temple in the name of St. Seraphim of Sarov, is located a little away from the city center, on Bach Street, closer to the "sleeping" areas, on a high hill among slender pine trees. This church was once Lutheran. Its construction began in 1903 and lasted four whole years. The solemn consecration of the church took place in July 1907. At that time, the Lutheran church was very much needed by the city of Rauschen (now - Svetlogorsk), because until that time the entire large parish had to gather in the only church of St. Lorenz, which was located where it is today village Salskoe. The church was erected with funds donated by local residents. The land for its construction was donated by a businessman from Konigsberg - August Honig. The architects Vihman and Kukkuku were the authors of the church project. The building of the church was built in the neo-Gothic style, but with elements of a new era, reflected in the details made in the Art Nouveau style. The interior was created by the architect Goering, who carried out this work entirely with his own money. He also donated a painting with a biblical story that adorned one of the walls of the temple. The church altar was made of wood, and its carving simply amazed the imagination of contemporaries. In the post-war years, the church was used as a sports hall. In 1992, the local authorities decided to use this architectural monument again for its intended purpose. Subsequently, the temple was restored. Its solemn consecration took place in August 1992 as an Orthodox church of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Unlike other churches in the region, the building was practically not damaged during the war. However, the post-war use did not cause much damage to these walls, and now the monument has been restored almost in its original form. The Seraphim of Sarov Temple is surrounded by a beautiful quiet park with a garden and a fountain. Topic: Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov description and photo - Russia - Baltic: Svetlogorsk. |
