Photo and description

The Yuri Gagarin House Museum is located in the village of Korzunovo. Opening date - September 7, 1991. The family of the first cosmonaut lived in this village. In the middle of the last century, this settlement was called the Novoye Luostari settlement. For a long time it was the place of quartering of the flight regiment until it was relocated to Severomorsk in 1998.

So, a young graduate of the flight school, Lieutenant Gagarin, was sent here to serve. He arrived in the Murmansk region and in Novy Luostari, like most other military men, he was settled in a small Finnish house. Here half of the house was already occupied by his colleague with his family. While still a cadet, Yuri Gagarin met his future wife Valentina Ivanovna Goryacheva in Orenburg. After the wedding in 1958, she moved in with her husband. Soon their first daughter was born.

By his nature, Yuri Gagarin was a leader, a man with a variety of hobbies and a tireless worker. He was distinguished by his activity and interests in various fields of activity. He also played sports. In the photo in the museum, he is depicted with the local volleyball team, of which he was the captain before his departure to Star City.

Unsurprisingly, Gagarin was among the first to recruit volunteers to carry out one state assignment for a secret experiment. The medical board chose only two military men, among whom was Yuri. He went straight from the village "on a business trip" - to Star City. There, in the Moscow region, there were other pilots who came from all over the big country. They were selected as the best among the best. As known, it was Gagarin who made that first flight into space on April 12, 1961 aboard the Vostok spacecraft.

22 years after the death of the Hero of the Soviet Union, a museum was founded in the house where he lived. The initiator of its creation was Sergei Mikhailovich Semenov. He was the head of the political department in the regiment, where Yuri Gagarin also served. In 1987, he turned with his initiative to the command of the air force of the Northern Fleet. His idea was supported. Despite the skeptical attitude of some members of the command, the initiative group showed great enthusiasm in preserving the memory of the life of the first cosmonaut on Earth. Gradually, exhibits were collected for the museum's exposition. In the midst of the construction and creation of the museum, the people's artist Vyacheslav Tikhonov visited here, becoming interested in this project.

All residents of Korzunovo, even students of the school, contributed to the creation of the museum. Finally, on September 7, 1991, the museum opened. On this day, the whole country celebrated the 30th anniversary of the time when the first manned flight into space took place.

After the military moved to Severomorsk, the town gradually fell into decay. Once upon a time, even passenger planes flew to Korzunovo. Now this is just a story. Of the 1,000 children attending the local school, only a couple of hundred remain. Over time, the museum also fell into disrepair. Despite this, he did not stop receiving visitors.

In 2000, the museum building was badly dilapidated and became unusable in order to store any exhibits. In 2003, it was decided to transfer it to the local school department. After he was placed in the care of school workers, in particular the director himself, Valentina Ivanovna Oleinik, the museum began to revive again. Funds were collected bit by bit for overhaul. Two years later, he was completely transformed. Now the students themselves often conduct excursions. Foreign visitors often come to the museum.

On March 29, 2011, the museum was reopened after renovation.
