Photo and descriptionMikkeli Rural Parish Church is a large wooden building located in the western part of the city. This third largest church in Finland, with a capacity of up to 2,000 people, was built in 1816-17. designed by the architect Karl Bassi in accordance with the religious traditions of Finland. Following the canons of the Lutheran church, the style of the building resembles the intersection of a cross and a square. At the eastern wall of the temple there is an altar depicting the crucifixion of Christ, which is a copy of a painting by artist Pierre Pudhoni exhibited in the Louvre. To restorers managed to be preserved in its original form since 1873. the church facade, as well as old bells, cast in 1752. The entrance to the village church is free, however, its doors are open to tourists only in summer.
