Photo and description

The Magarach winery is located on the southern coast of Crimea. This plant is the cradle of the domestic science of grapes and drinks from it. For about two centuries the secret of wine has been studied at this factory.

At the beginning of the 19th century, by order of Prince M.S. Vorontsov, a "State experimental institution" was created in the Nikitsky Botanical Garden. This institution was supposed to breed the best vines and conduct experiments in the production of various wines. Prince Vorontsov was a great admirer of winemaking and contributed in every way to its development. In 1852, a winery was built in the Magarach tract (translated as "source"). The first scientists-winemakers at this plant were Franz Gasquet and Anastasiy Serbulenko with the participation of the director of the Nikitsky garden Nikolai Gartvis. They were given a priority task: "To make only healthy wines that can be stored for a long time, without trying to make a similarity in taste or composition of the bouquet of any already known foreign wines."

Soon, experts in the study of viticulture and wines from it were convinced that that the grapes grown on the southern coast of Crimea are ideal for making both strong and dessert wines. In order to better study and consolidate the results obtained, the wine was left in cellars for long-term storage. This is how the collection of the Magarach plant appeared. Until now, the plant's enoteca has a wine that was made in 1836 - Rose Muscat. For making wine, the grape harvest of the same year went. This wine is considered to be the oldest Russian wine included in the Guinness Book of Records.

The Magarach distillery put in a lot of effort to gain a place in the large Russian market, which was full of many famous foreign wines. The merchants who bought the precious muscats from the Magarach factory, without hesitation, diluted them with water, passing off as French sauternes. They did it to get more profit, since French wines were famous for a long time. In order to avoid such falsifications, the wines of the "Magarach" distillery began to be bottled in branded bottles with pasted branded labels.

The wines of this distillery received international recognition only a few years later - in 1873. This happened in Vienna at the World's Fair. A delicate taste, incomparable aroma and a bouquet of taste qualities that no wine produced in other countries has.

The winemakers of this plant have produced very well-known in our time domestic brands of muscadine, port, sherry, fine Madeira and many other Crimean classic wines.

Currently IViV "Magarach" is a modern scientific center and a winery, equipped with modern equipment. It produces wonderful dessert and no less wonderful strong wines of the same quality as in past centuries.
