Photo and descriptionThe famous local history museum in the city of Cherepovets was opened in 1896. The very first collections of the museum were collections devoted to natural history. The so popular herbariums by Petrov, M.D. Korovin, A. Antonov, A. Lashkevich are the oldest exhibits and rarities of the Museum of Nature. The ornithological and entomological collections of the Museum of Nature are especially interesting. As for the entomological collections of Yu. Tsekhanovich, received at the beginning of this century, at the moment it fully meets all modern scientific requirements. Starting in 1907, the formation of the museum's paleontological collection began. At this time, in the process of building a harbor on the Yagorbe River, a huge number of bones of ancient fossil animals were discovered. It was this collection that was replenished to the greatest extent in the 40-70s during the construction of a plant for the processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. A considerable number of bones of mammoths, musk oxen and bison were found in construction pits and quarries. During the 1920s, due to the rapid development of the local history movement in the study of the Vologda region, a large number of local enthusiasts joined the process. The Museum of Nature has organized numerous expeditions related to the study of flora and fauna. The beneficial influence of cooperation with the Geological Committee was manifested in geological surveys, as well as in-depth studies of deposits of building materials. Throughout the time, the Museum of Nature was constantly replenished with new exhibits, for example, herbariums, rocks, minerals, stuffed fish and animals. It should be noted that the collection of stuffed animals is of the greatest interest, in which there are stuffed a bear and four bears, a male bear, an elk, a lynx, a fox, wolves, as well as rare birds - an eagle, an eagle, a heron. In 1936, at the Museum of Nature, an experimental site of local botanists was created. This site was used to promote and propagate the ideas of Michurin I.V., as well as the latest agricultural technology, became a consistent continuation of the described exposition and included a beautiful and amazing garden of continuous and constant flowering, greenhouses, an orchard and a large exhibition pavilion. Over time, the museum's collections have only expanded, due not only to the work of professional preparations and expeditionary fees, but also thanks to gifts from the hospitable residents of the city of Cherepovets. There were also separate collections, for example, the collection of mollusks by Volkova A.I. or the famous collection of A.F. Manaev's mushroom dummies, which were acquired in order to completely decorate the museum's exhibition fund. The scientific auxiliary fund of the Museum of Nature is represented by a huge collection of negatives and photographs, the authors of which are Berezovsky M.V., Mikhailov V.N., Shkuropadsky N.D. and many other masters of their craft. They have participated in many competitions and have also been published in various magazines; their works were used in the design of albums related to nature, books telling about the beauty not only of these places, but also of the whole of Russia. The total number of exhibits presented in the museum, as well as exhibits included in the museum fund, reaches more than thirty thousand. At the moment, the Museum of Nature is located on the second floor of a building located on Lunacharsky Avenue. The area of the museum is 500 square meters, while the exposition area is 360 square meters. The museum has a small room designed for the lessons and lessons of the children's lecture hall.
