Professional historians and archeologists have been working in the museum since the 80s of the last century. The archaeological museum has been located in a separate building since 1987 (Krasnaya street, 1b). The museum funds include 100 thousand ancient items. The museum is part of the Cherepovets Museum Association. More than 2000 items are presented at the exhibitions. The museum's archaeologists continue to study the archeological monuments of the Vologda region, collaborate with various research centers throughout the country. The second archaeological expedition is studying the monuments of primitive times (monuments of the X-XIV centuries). This expedition conducted research on more than a dozen sites of the distant Mesolithic era, it was at this time that the region began to be populated by people. This expedition explored the settlements that are located on the territory of Cherepovets - Cathedral Hill, Oktyabrsky Bridge, Uryvkovo. For several years, an expedition of the archaeological museum has been excavating a unique historical monument in the Rybinsk reservoir - the settlement of Lukovets (this is an ancient Russian center, which has been known since the 10th century). The expedition is headed by N.V. Kosorukova is a researcher at the Cherepovets Museum. In the city of Cherepovets, interest in the work of archaeological researchers is growing.
