Davao Museum description and photos - Philippines: Davao. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Davao Museum. Photo and DescriptionThe Davao Museum introduces visitors to the rich cultural heritage of various ethnic groups and tribes that inhabited the territory of present-day Davao in different historical periods. The museum is located 12 km from the city center on Magellan Avenue, near Davao International Airport. The museum once housed a courtroom, later a warehouse, and in 2008 Nanya Soling Duterte, one of the city's most influential women and grandmother of Davao Mayor Sara Duterte, secured the building to be used as a repository of the city's heritage. The first thing that visitors to the museum see is a chronological tree of historical events that took place in the territory of Davao and its environs. It starts from the time of the first archaeological finds and the first aboriginal settlements up to the present day. On two floors of the museum there are household items, tools and handicrafts of numerous local tribes - Mandaya, B'laan, Tiboli, Manobo, Mansaka, Bagobo, etc. There are ten tribes in total, five of which are considered Muslim, and the other five are pagan. Here you can see traditional costumes, pottery, ancient martaban jugs, vases and other items of everyday life, as well as some jewelry. A small exposition is dedicated to Dat Bago - the leader of one of the tribes who rebelled against the Spanish colonialists. And next to it is the wax figure of President Manuel Quezon, who signed the decree establishing the city of Davao in 1936. An important part of the museum's collections are exhibits telling about the Second World War - you can even see a rusty American bomb here. On the second floor of the museum, in a huge gallery of artwork, there are drawings, ceramics, sculptures, carved ornaments, musical instruments dating back more than one thousand years. The Davao Museum also contains archaeological artifacts found not only in the city, but also in other parts of the island of Mindanao. Here, on the second floor, there is the so-called Peace Hall - a library and a conference room, covered with photographs from international conferences and seminars. There is a souvenir shop next to the museum where you can buy handicrafts made by local Aboriginal people or clothes woven from Manila hemp by Tiboli women. Such souvenirs are usually embroidered with drawings that tell about the traditional religious beliefs of the tribe, its myths and legends.
