Photo and description

Ancient pagan sanctuaries of the Early Bronze Age are located in the city of Zaporozhye, on the island of Khortytsya, in the forests of its northern part, near the ravine, which is called the Great Molodnyaga, not far from the historical Museum of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks.

The main pagan sanctuary is located at the height of Bragarne and is a small circle of stones. Archaeologists who studied this complex in 1993-1997 came to the general conclusion that this circle had an astronomical purpose, since its axis was directed towards the rising sun on the day of the summer solstice.

On the southern slope of the gully there is another complex of these religious buildings. It consists of three altars of stone structures, which are united by an egg-shaped structure.

In 1997, the sanctuaries located on Khortitsa were reconstructed by representatives of the pagan community, wooden idols of various pagan gods were installed on the temples. Three of them are located at the Triglav sanctuary. The main characteristic of these sanctuaries is the absence of pronounced external signs. In the first altar the egg is entwined by a serpent, on the second altar the egg is very large, and in the third there is a four-meter egg, which contains a jug. Some historians associate this symbolism with Vedic culture.

At the highest point of the island, there is an ancient sanctuary of 4-5 centuries BC. Here you can see the image of Perun - a pagan god.

Today, not far from the pagan sanctuaries, Ukrainian modern pagans conduct their rituals, worship Myrobog, Perun, Makosh and other deities of their pantheon. And in July, the celebration of the Day of Perun is held here, which is organized by the community “Ruske Pravoslavne Kolo”.
