Photo and description

Euromast is a famous observation tower in Rotterdam, designed by the talented Dutch architect Hugh Maaskant. Today it is one of the tallest structures in the Netherlands, as well as one of the most famous and popular landmarks of Rotterdam.

Construction of the Euromast began in December 1958 in preparation for the world famous Floriade horticultural exhibition - a real The “mecca” of gardeners, florists, landscape designers and simply connoisseurs of beauty, which was first held in Rotterdam in 1960.

The tower, built according to Maaskant's project, was a monolithic reinforced concrete structure about 101 m high, with walls only 30 cm thick and an inner diameter of 9 m. At a height of 96 meters, there is a very impressive glass and steel structure, which received a rather unusual name - "Crow's Nest", where two restaurants were located. This 240-ton structure was assembled at the foot of the tower, and it took five days to raise it to the desired height. Above the Crow's Nest, an excellent observation deck was installed, and at a height of 32 m - a "ship bridge" with a navigational wheelhouse, which was equipped with navigation devices.

The grand opening of the Euromast took place in March 1960 in the presence of Princess Beatrix. At the time of the completion of construction, the tower became the tallest structure in Rotterdam, losing the palm only in 1968 to the high-rise Erasmus MC (Erasmus University Medical Center). However, already in 1970, a huge almost 85-meter spire or the so-called "Space Tower" was added to the original Maaskant tower and the Euromast again became the tallest structure in Rotterdam. At a height of 112 m, the Euroscope was installed - a glass panoramic cabin rotating around its axis when lifting around its axis, on which one can rise to a height of 180 m. And in 2004, two luxury hotel rooms were equipped in the Crow's Nest - a real paradise for romantics , at their disposal from 10 pm to 10 am the largest "balcony" in Rotterdam.

It is worth noting that the Euromast is not only stunning panoramic views, and if you like extreme entertainment, by all means it is worth visiting this famous tower on a weekend - you can tickle your nerves, descending from the observation deck of the Euromast with the help of climbing equipment.
