Photo and description

The Government Palace, built by local stonemasons, was built in the neo-Gothic style, designed by the Roman architect Francesco Azzurri. The construction, which began in 1884, lasted 10 years. The facade of the palace is decorated with the coats of arms of the castles of the Republic. The upper part of the palace is decorated with Guelph battlements. On the left above the facade there is a bell tower with a clock, which depicts the figure of St. Marina standing between St. Agathia and Leo.

In front of the Government Palace is the Freedom Square, or as it is also called, Pianella, in the center of which the Statue of Liberty by the sculptor Galetti stands majestically, donated to San Marino by Countess Otilia Geyrot Wagener in 1876.
