Photo and DescriptionThe Museum of Modern Art, or the Center for Art in Granada, bears the name of the outstanding Spanish artist of the 20th century, Jose Guerrero. Jose Guerrero, who was born in Granada in 1914 and it was here that he began his career, is deservedly considered the greatest Spanish artist who had a great influence on the formation of modern Spanish painting and made a significant contribution to the development of Spanish culture in general. Jose Guerrero is one of the brightest representatives of abstract expressionism. The future master received his first art education in Granada, at the School of Arts and Crafts. He then studied in Madrid at the San Fernando Academy. In the 45th year of the 20th century, Guerrero went to Paris, where he met such outstanding Spanish artists as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro. In the 1950s he went to New York, where his final development as a master of abstract expressionism took place. He participates in many exhibitions and receives many awards. Today his works are exhibited in many of the most famous museums in the world. It is not surprising that in the artist's hometown, his museum or art center was founded, which was initially dedicated only to his work. The vast heritage of the outstanding artist is presented here, the development of the work of Jose Guerrero is most fully revealed. The museum is located in a beautiful house built in the 19th century by the architect Antonio Jimenez Torecilas. The museum was opened in 2000 with funds donated by the artist's widow.
