The Carthusian monastery is located 2.5 kilometers northeast of the center of Granada, amidst vibrant green gardens. Despite the fact that several architectural styles are visible in the facade of the building, the Carthusian Monastery is still a vivid example of Baroque in Spanish architecture.

The decision to establish the monastery was made back in 1458. The construction itself began in 1506 after the great commander of that time, Gonzalo de Cordoba, provided land for these purposes. Work on the construction of the monastery lasted for 300 years and was completed in 1835. Unfortunately, the monastery was not completely preserved, part of the monastery complex was destroyed. In 1836, part of the land belonging to the monastery was sold to private individuals. In this regard, the cells, belonging to the monks were destroyed. The most beautiful abbey house was also destroyed.

The monastery consists of several parts, each of which is striking in its beauty and grandeur. The main entrance, dating back to the 16th century, is made in the plateresque style. The refectory with semicircular arches, also from the 16th century, and the Hall of the Apostles Peter and Paul, are painted with paintings by Juan Sanchez Cotan. The sacristy, created in 1727, is decorated with a magnificent dome, painted in 1753 by the artist Thomas Ferrer, and paintings by Fry Francisco Morales. Particularly noteworthy is the church, the construction of which, according to the project of Christopher de Vilches, lasted from the 16th to the beginning of the 18th century. The choirs of the church are separated by a crystal door created by Jose Vazquez and decorated with ivory inserts, wood of unique species, as well as silver and other precious metals. The walls are decorated with works by the artist Pedro Atanasio Bocanegra, telling about the life of the Mother of God.
