Church Espoo description and photos - Finland: Espoo. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe old stone church was built in 1458 along the bend of the Espoo River. In those days, the stone church served as a refuge during various raids and unrest. Originally, the church was built in the shape of a rectangle with three naves and retained this appearance until the 1820s, when it was rebuilt during the expansion of the church. Over the centuries, the church has undergone several restorations - one of the largest in the 1930s (under the direction of Professor Armas Lindgren), when its old appearance was restored. The last time the temple was repaired was in 1982, when the wooden sculpture `` The Passion of Christ '', which had been in the collection of the National Museum for many years, was restored above the altar of the church. Organ concerts are held here on summer evenings.
