Mon Avic Park is the first specially protected natural area, created in the Italian region of Val d'Aosta and characterized by landscapes of amazing beauty. The park was established in 1989 to protect the ecosystems of the high-mountain valley of Torrente Shalami (Shamdepra), and in 2003, part of the huge Dondena Valley, extending to the Val Soana and Valle di Conye mountain ranges, was included in Mon Avik. Today the total area of the park reaches 5747 hectares. It borders on the Gran Paradiso National Park and has the status of a special specially protected zone and territory of communal importance.

As mentioned above, Mon Avik boasts a range of picturesque and breathtaking landscapes and places that have only been partially affected by human activity. On the slopes of Shamdepra, the harsh mountain conditions did not at all contribute to the development of agriculture and pasture cattle breeding, for the same reasons the tourist flow here is not too large. The forests of the Val Shalamy valley, devastated by the mining industry in the past centuries, have today mostly restored their original appearance and, conversely, attract tourists with their landscapes and entertainment. The mountainous landscapes of the Champorcher Valley, with extensive alpine meadows, are home to stone goats, chamois and marmots. In addition, on the territory of the Mon Avik Park you can see unusual natural formations such as deep gorges and bizarre rocks, admire rare alpine plants, visit the largest untouched pine forest in the region and relax on the shores of numerous lakes and ponds in the company of representatives of the alpine fauna.
