Episcopal Square (Piazza Vescovado) description and photos - Italy: Caorle. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Piazza Vescovado. Photo and descriptionPiazza Vescovado - Episcopal Square - one of the main attractions of the resort town of Caorle. It was recently renovated and today, according to residents, best reflects Caorle's transition from the second to the third millennium. The square has always been and remains not only an important religious site, but also the real center of the Roman and Venetian Caprulae (as Caorle was called in ancient times). Piazza Vescovado faces two major sights of the city - the cathedral and its unique cylindrical bell tower. Opposite the facade of the cathedral, dedicated to Caorle's patron Saint Stephen, you can see a multicolored marble flooring that reflects the location of the antique baptistery of Madonna delle Grazie, demolished in the 18th century. Behind the Cathedral begins a long wall that surrounds the bishop's residence - the Palazzo, built in the 16th century by order of Pietro Carlo. The palace is connected to the cloister of the church, in which old frescoes deserve special attention. In the same place, in the center of the garden, you can see the Roman "vera da pozzo" - a type of well with a cistern, common in Venice. Another important building in Piazza Vescovado is the City Center, built in the first half of the 20th century and recently renovated. Nearby is the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance and the ancient Palazzo Pretorio. Behind the cathedral begins Via della Canonica, which connects with Via della Saceta and goes towards the old Napoleonic cemetery.
