The memorial complex to the soldiers-drivers was created on the eve of the thirtieth anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, in 1975, by means of motor vehicles of the region at the entrance to Saratov from Volgograd. The author of the project is the motorist L.P. Nikitin.

During the war period, convoys of cars with food, military equipment and uniforms went through Saratov to Stalingrad (now Volgograd). Taking the wounded, they returned along the same road, many drivers died under fire and during air bombing. At the cost of their lives, the Saratov warriors-drivers provided the front and rear with everything necessary, making their contribution to the victory.

In memory of the heroic drivers on the fourth kilometer of the Saratov-Volgograd highway in 1975. a fifteen-meter stele was installed, faced with Balakovo marble and a little further away a bas-relief wall with military subjects. In 2009, to the 65th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, at the initiative of the leadership of the Ministry of Road Transport, memorial plates with the names of the dead motorists were added.

Honoring the memory of the heroes-motorists who did not return from the war, it has become a tradition for drivers to shrilly honk the passing memorial complex. Every year - on May 9, festive events are held near the monument dedicated to the Great Victory in the Patriotic War with the laying of flowers at the foot of the monument and congratulations to the veterans.

The memorial complex installed on the edge of Saratov uniting all motorists is a historical landmark of Saratov.
