Photo and description

A small park Leski is located in the city of Nikolaev, in the microdistrict of the same name - Leski. The name of this Nikolaev park is connected with the fact that here, before the park appeared, there were many bushes and trees, which were collected in separate groups and gave the impression of small woods.

According to archival data, the name "Leski" was first mentioned by Colonel Mikhail Faleev in a letter addressed to the Grand Duke G. Potemkin dated August 14, 1790. At that time, several dozen natural groves grew on this territory, there were lakes and wells, in addition, the area was rich in groundwater. However, since that time, a large amount of water has flowed under the bridge, and a significant part of the original natural groves, about which M. Faleev writes in his letter, was simply lost.

In the second half of the 19th Art. the territory of "Leskov" fell into decay, on the outskirts they began to build factories. During the First and Second World Wars, Leski Park suffered serious damage, almost all trees were cut down, with the exception of a few poplars and oaks. In 1974 Nikolaevsky Park received the status of a protected object and the status of a city park of culture and recreation. Today, the Leski Park houses the Iskra cinema, built in 1978. The cinema is currently closed. Bethany Church was located in its building from 2002 to 2004.

Today, the park has a small planting of pines, plantings of robinia, pseudoacacia, western sycamore, Japanese sophora, linden, maples of various types, thuja, spruce, birch, mulberry, poplars, roses and wild rose. One type of flower - white-pearl cornflower - is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. A total of 3440 trees grow in the park. There is also a lake with a total area of 9.2 hectares, the banks of which are overgrown with reeds.

Leski Park is one of the most popular places in the city of Nikolaev for family outdoor recreation.
